The world around us shapes the world within us and our ways of being with one another. When you begin to understand your life story and make sense of even the most difficult times you've encountered, the world can become a place of freedom and possibility.
My beliefs about what is useful in psychotherapy have been shaped by both my professional and human experiences. I began my clinical social work career working in inpatient psychiatry at a public hospital in Brooklyn. There, I encountered fellow human beings at their most vulnerable and in their deepest states of need. My experience has been that across differences in identity, history and life circumstances, human connection is primary in creating the conditions within which people grow and heal. Work in hospice care, family reunification and community mental health has furthered this conviction. Prior to going into private practice, I provided individual and group therapy on staff at New York University's student counseling center, where I enjoyed working with young adults. Attachment theory underpins my professional values, and I believe strongly in the transformative potential of human relationships.
